Decision Matrix
Use this tool to gain clarity on big decisions by synchronizing your logic and intuition.
What is a Decision Matrix?
A Decision Matrix is a tool you can use to streamline the most important aspects of a large, upcoming decision. It allows us to get all of the swirling pieces out of our heads and down on paper.
You may notice yourself trying to game the system - GOOD. That tells you valuable information about where you are leaning. Notice it, and speak it aloud. If you get to the end of the exercise and the winning result doesn’t align with your gut, your logical brain might be trying to con your gut.
We highly recommend you do this exercise with a partner who is filling in the information on your behalf. Copy this form to edit and make your own edits!
Instructions
You can find a copy of your Decision Matrix form below here. Please download and make your own!
1) First, choose an important decision that is present in your life. This could be choosing a job, a college, a place to live, and the list goes on. Next, decide on six variables that go into making that decision.
For example, if you are deciding on what job to take, a variable could be "what are the benefits?" or "how many hours do I want to work weekly?".
2) Next, imagine that you have 100 pennies. How many would you allocate to each of these variables? In other words, determine the weight of their importance.
3) Finally, rank the options in order (1, best choice, etc.). The form will automatically populate itself and the option with the lowest score wins.
